Key competences or basic capabilities

Basic capabilities or key competences are those capabilities that do not depend on the circumstances of one’s activity and enable an individual – irrespective of the specific circumstances – to respond and function in a broad spectrum of different activities. They are transferrable and therefore can be applied in various professions, but mainly enable the individual to participate in the society and achieve personal development. Competence

Competence is an individual’s ability to apply the acquired knowledge and skills in accordance with his or her values and beliefs in complex, diverse and unforeseeable situations. (Temeljne zmožnosti odraslih, 2012)

Life skills

Life skills are an integral part of the ability to live and work in a particular social, cultural and natural environment. Skills are formed in response to an individual’s needs in a particular living environment. (LSE definition)
